Kristin Falk is a Professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) teaching in the award-winning program in Systems Engineering, is the director of the Industrial Research School in Complex Systems (INRESCOS) with USN, NTNU and UiA as academic partners, serves as Deputy Director of the university’s Strategic Research Area: ‘Regional Value Creation», and is the leader of the high-impact research group NISE (Norwegian Industrial Systems Engineering) at USN. Prof. Falk has an outstanding combination of academic and industrial experiences, having worked for 20 years in high-tech industry leading research, development and implementation of new technology. Her industrial experience ranges from subsea systems development in large multinational companies to developing drilling service solutions in a start-up Company. She has managerial experience as Project Manager, Department Manager, and Executive Manager. Dr. Falk’s research focuses on how to collaborate to develop trustworthy, changeable, and sustainable engineered systems creating value for the society. Her research lays within systems engineering, systemic innovation, systems architecture, big data, sustainability, simulations, modelling, and technical leadership. Her academic work appeared in impactful and leading peer reviewed journals, including Journal of Systems Engineering where she received best-paper award in 2024, IEEE Systems Journal, Technology innovation management review, and International Journal on Advances in Software, International Journal on Advances in Intelligent Systems, and Highlights of Sustainability. She is also a significant contributor to the industry-focused conference International Symposium of Systems Engineering. Prof Falk was awarded PhD at NTNU in 1999 within the domain of pressure-pulse propagation in multiphase flow; experiments, modeling and field testing, and holds a Siv.Ing. (MSc) in Industrial Mathematics.
